Hotwire Car Rental - Accidental Car Rental Pick Up Location
Complaint

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE -- I recently reserved a car through Hotwire. Question asked "where are you going". I put Atlanta. when I noticed it had me picking up and returning to Atlanta after I made my reservation, I called to correct it. My car rental was for four days $106.00. They told me I couldn't get a refund but they would do a one time cancellation and rebook.
When they re-booked the new price was $178.00 for four days. The only thing I needed done was to schedule my rental pick up for Memphis not Atlanta, since I live in Memphis. I asked why I couldn't receive same price since I had just made reservation. They told me prices change and rental in Memphis was higher than Atlanta. I told her that wasn't true and asked to speak to her manager. I got the same results speaking to her so I hung up, pulled the same dates, time and this time pick up in Memphis. It showed same initial price of $106.00.
I called hot wire back and informed them of the price and asked if I could reschedule for that price which was my initial price. They said no that they had already done one cancellation. I reminded her about their policy to contact consumer if rates go lower in which she stated that must be another company policy. I feel that the question "where are you going" is misleading for consumers to make a mistake for them to jack up price in which they profit the difference. I too will not be renting through hot wire again, not to mention the hooker hotel we were booked for in Killeen, TX earlier this summer.
