Amtrak - No Food, No Drink.....WTH!
Trip from AZ to WA - Complaint
Anyhow....I just wrote to Amtrak, I am NOT planning to travel by train again anytime soon...the following is the letter I wrote them....
"I am NOT a happy camper with #14 Coast Starlight....I waited over 5 hours at LAX for it...okay, fine, I expected a 5 hours layover...I went to sign in to let them know I was there and ready to leave, I was not on the passenger list...I DID call and confirm my ticket, there was no excuse for that. The lady who signed me in tried putting me in an upper seat...I'm disabled and don't do stairs...I had a disabled ticket because I am also hearing impaired. She was almost insistant I take an upper seat, but I had a RESERVED LOWER LEVEL SEAT. I did get my lower seat after an arguement. About 11:30 A.M. she came and asked if anyone wanted food or drink....I had a cup of soup and a Pepsi....no one came back after that for dinner service...9:30 - 10:00 P.M. that night a PASSENGER was kind enough to get something from the cafe car for me and a couple of other ladies...just before the cafe closed for the night. I had a pizza....I was able to eat the center of it, the crust was rock hard...over nuked!! Around 8:30 the next morning I asked for a cinnamon roll, bottle of juice and a Pepsi...I received a paper cup of juice, some slightly warmed raisin bread and a Pepsi....granted, I was charged for the Pepsi but not the other as it wasn't EXACTLY what I wanted....the cafe car was closed and she got it from the dining car. I got off the train around 7:00 P.M. last night (the 23rd) and had gone from 8:30 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. with no offer of a meal, drink, NOTHING. Myself and several other ladies tried using the "CALL BUTTON", the one that lights up bright YELLOW....no one ever came....what if someone had been sick or worse in our car....we had no assistance whatever, no food, drink or anything after a very small breakfast! (Good thing my husband wasn't with me, he's diabetic!) I am 62 years old and had never been on a train before....I rode one TO Arizona in July and back this week....it was a fairly pleasant experience going to Arizona....coming home was NOT. I may never take a train again. Oh...we had someone SMOKING in the handicap restroom in car 11 and 2 hours before getting home were told we'd have to go to the next car to use restroom....ALL ours were supposedly broken."
As you can see...I was NOT happy with the trip and I am also waiting for the other ladies who said they were contacting Amtrak about all this.
