EAST YORK, PENNSYLVANIA -- Checked on line for return policy. Bought a dress several months ago. I decided I really didn't like the way it fit. Never wore it. The tags still on. According to the policy they could check my account back one year. Nothing came up on their screen so they gave me a no receipt return. $9.00 for a dress I paid a lot more for. Very disappointed in this transaction. I like Kohl's and shop there a lot, but will rethink my purchases from now on.

A "no-receipt return" most likely means they give you the lowest price that the item sold for during that time period. You didn't state how much you paid for it. It makes good sense to do this, to prevent people from buying on sale and returning for the regular price.

If they could not find a record of your purchase, they had no choice. The crux of the matter appears to be why the purchase didn't show, assuming you used whatever form of payment or store id that should allow the purchase to be located. This is really a backup method of proof, whereas the receipt is the main one.

Kohl's has one of the better returns policies in the industry. The one time I returned something I found the people in the returns area very friendly and helpful. I had my receipt so there was no issue there.

Another thing to note is that you bought the item several months ago. In many stores, they won't take returns after 30 or 60 days. This is something to keep in mind when choosing a store.

I wonder why nothing came up on the screen when they checked? Di you pay cash? Did you go back and check everywhere for the receipt? How much more then $9.00 to you pay for the dress? I would have kept looking.

There is a lesson to be learned here: try on the dress as soon as possible so that you'll be able to return the dress before the return date expires.

If you don't have a receipt then the store will refund you the lowest cost of the item. Sounds like the item was probably on clearance since several months have passed. Without a receipt, a store has no way of knowing what you paid

Without proof of how much you paid Kohl's was giving the last price of what the dress was. The tags mean nothing because Kohl's price tags are never the price you pay. They are always discounted and then if you have Kohl's dollars it is even cheaper.
