5000 Series Sleep Number Bed - Complaint
MINNESOTA -- Bought my Sleep Number bed 7 years ago and has been great until recently. One side of the bed started losing air and customer service told me it was the air mattress and recommended paying the $80 to get a new one. After some trouble shooting of my own found out that the plastic piece connecting the mattress and the hose was cracked and leaking. When I pulled it apart the plastic piece broke off completely. Called customer service and they sent out upgraded replacement ends (at 12.95 for a pack of 4) and recommended that I replace both ends. Any time a company sends you a upgraded part it tends to mean that they had a problem with the original part but just don’t want to tell you about it so they play up the fact that it’s an upgraded part. They shipped in a timely manner and went to install them and the male end coming out of the mattress broke off in the plug (apparently also made of the same brittle plastic the female end was made out of) right behind the o-ring. Called back customer service and they told me that I needed a new air mattress and that it would cost me $80. I asked them if the bed had a 20 year warranty doesn’t that mean it’s supposed to last 20 years? Talked to a manager who knocked it down to $40, that helped but whats to say that it won’t happen to the other side. The manager said that there was no guarantee that it won’t happen to the other side but that I still had another 13 years left on my pro-rated warranty. So if your Sleep Number bed is older than 6 years be prepared to have to start replacing pieces on it.
