Weiss Grocery Store - Deceptive Pricing Policies

NEWTON, NEW JERSEY -- We have a Weiss Supermarket near us in Newton. I've had several bad experiences there, and only use that store seldom. I went there this past Sunday because of a need for some potato salad that I forgot to pick up at our local Shoprite for Labor Day. They had pre packaged 3 lb containers in front of the deli dept.. Upon looking it over, I saw a brand that was on sale for $6.49. There was a tag on the front of the shelf for this price on this brand for marcaroni salad, none for the potato salad even though potato salad containers were mixed in with the macaroni salad containers. Since there was no separate tag for the potato salad, I assumed that it was the same price as it usually is in every store that I've ever gone into. Big mistake......When I checked out, I discovered that the potato salad was priced at $7.99, a big difference. Weiss has a tendency to always do this, and to protect themselves, they advertise in their circulars "select types", or something there abouts.
One other time, a couple of years ago, they had corned beef on sale at a great price for St Patricks Day. I went there at 8:30 in the morning the day the sale started; they were all out I was told. The meat counter did not even have a place for it! I was told that they were not sure if they were getting more in, and told me to keep trying later in the week. They would not issue a rain check. I then tried to see if I could get an answer by contacting corporate. It appears that they did not care, nor did they offer some type of satisfaction.
These are only two instances out of several that have happened.
I have to learn to stay away from that chain.

The sign on the shelf said "$6.49 for Macaroni salad. Why did you assume it also meant that price for the Potato salad? It clearly said "Macaroni Salad.

Because normal stores in the northeast, usually price cole slaw, macaroni salad, and potato salad as being the same. A lot of stores do not have separate tags on the shelf for each. I've seen this many times.

I shop at Weis Markets all the time and find their pricing fair and their items in stock and their staff is very friendly and helpful, at least in all their Pennsylvania stores I have been in.

very helpful review, and voted as such!

it is maddening when items get mixed up in the wrong sections. i suspect i too would have felt if there were several of a different item mixed in, they all would be the same price. perhaps a stocker mixed them up and did not have enough ambition to correct their error.

Nothing deceptive here. The OP just made an "assumption" that was not true. Sale prices usually apply to only what is listed on the the shelf sign.
