EL PASO, TEXAS -- I am very disappointed in Target. Today I called them early in the morning and explained to them that I wanted to purchase The Big Bang Theory season 5, and I asked them if they could please hold this item for me, that I would pick it up in an hour. The man I spoke to clearly said no and simply hung up. Wow, and Target prides themselves in their "Customer Service" ? I simply went to Walmart and had no hassle whatsoever there, they gladly held this season for me.

If Target did this for every customer that is all they would do all day. I am shocked that walmart did that for you. Years ago when I was attempting to return a defective CD and the exact same one when I asked them to call another store to see if they had it I was told NO, I would have to go to the store myself.

I have to agree with yoke. Most retail stores these days do not put items on hold, during my BBY stint we didn't remove merchandise from the shelf to hold. Whoever gets there first gets the item. There's nothing "horrible" about that IMHO. I'm also very surprised that Wal-Mart did hold a copy for you.

I partially agree with Yoke and FoDaddy19. I don't think they were being unreasonable in not wanting to hold the item.

I also don't think the OP was being unreasonable in asking for them to hold it. Some stores have an option to pickup items ordered online, in the store. Target doesn't appear to be one of them. They just needed to make tiny effort to keep a customer happy, but as usual, they do as little as possible.
Also, Target is just wrong in their response. A one-word answer and a hang up is just rude! That is no way to treat a person. Target falls to the occasion again.

very helpful review.

i agree with the poster, there is no reason a store cannot "hold" an item. i have done this several times in many different stores. walmart, home depot, to name a couple. one thing many consumers have learned, is target is the tops in customer dis-service.

I agree with Target. They can not hold items because it is first come, first served.

Most all stores will not hold items like this for you - it's first come first serve.

Even my local private bakery has such a policy - I can't call and have them hold something that would otherwise be put out for sale. It may seem like an odd anology, but it is the same in some ways.

A company has a right to uphold their policies. But Target uses their policies to justify rudeness. I believe Target is one of the big contributors to the decline of customer service. Yet, people defend Target. Target could get away with slapping people in the face, as long as they cited it as company policy.

Target has held merchandise lots of times for me in the past. they may have not been able to hold it because it is a new release. and i will always defend Target.

Always? Why? Do you think that favor will be returned? They would have no problem speaking to you as an inferior, as is the Target way. Your loyalty is severely misplaced.

much like certain people who seem to go out of their way to put Target down.

It was a new release item. They most likely did not want to put it aside and have you not show up for it. Was it listed at a sales price as well? You state it would have been 30 minutes, but what if, after an hour you still had not showed up? And there were people looking to purchase the item in the store and had to be turned away? Stores operate on a "first come, first served" basis.

i am not saying that Target has not given me bad days, but the good days outnumber the bad ones. i was taught the Golden Rule when i was a kid. when i have an issue to take of i always do it in a calm reasonable manner and almost always get what i want. when someone comes in acting like child just because the answer is no deserves not to get anything. i have been a loyal custermer since i was 18(i am now 50)and again i will defend Target.

So you are saying it is perfectly reasonable to answer a customer "NO!" then hang up on them? Why do people seem to ignore that? They can uphold their policies, but they USE THEIR POLICIES TO TREAT PEOPLE BADLY! Just another example.
