FERNANDINA, FLORIDA -- I established a brokerage account with Charles Schwab in 1997. I was the primary on the account and in my social security number. I had paid income taxes on the account until its liquidation in August of 2011. My mother was joint with sole right to survivorship. My mother died 9 years ago and Schwab caused the account to be liquidated into her Estate against all survivorship laws.
