DYSART, IOWA -- Unfortunalty for me my former lender sold my loan to bank of America. Last month after making a payment on line where I typed in the amount of $1100 for my mortgage payment, they took out $2300. My debit card was declined for insufficient funds so I called my bank and they told me bank of America had taken 2300 out which obviously was bank of America's mistake. I called immediately and went through hell trying to get someone to help me and put 1100 back into my account. I had to do a conference call with my bank and bank of America and my bank had to fax them proof that they had indeed taken out 2300.

The check had cleared and they had the money. Now 2 weeks have passed and bank of America still has my 2300. They have not returned my money to me. They have the worse customer service I have ever encountered. And I have no recourse. It makes me sick to have to deal with bank of America.

You can file a complaint with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, a federal agency that regulates banks. You can file a complaint online at https://appsec.helpwithmybank.gov/olcc_form/. Good luck!

The convenience of online payments, is match by the difficulty create by that method, especially when it comes out of your bank account.

On something as big as this, a suggestion would be to pay your mortgage by check. That way you have control of the matter. (Even if you use it for lesser things such as electric bills.)
