Lowe's - Extended Warranty Sham
Maytag Front Loading MHWE300VW Washer - Complaint
COLUMBUS, OHIO -- On 11-28-2009 at a "Black Friday Sale" I purchased a matching set of Maytag Washer/Dryer with the last of my savings. Less than 2 years later, the washer died. I had purchased an extended warranty for the pair, so I called Lowe's and after being transferred and kept on hold for an hour got to speak to a live individual. A repairman was sent out within 2 days. It turns out that Maytag is no longer Maytag, but Whirlpool hiding behind the Maytag name, for starters. The potential problem was diagnosed, the part ordered, and in one week the repairman returned to fix the washer, however, it was not fixed. The CPU/Brain/Computer needed to be replaced, again the part was ordered.
I monitored my email for the notification things were underway, but nothing showed up. I called the repairman, he found out that Lowe's Extended Warranty had said it would not be economical to repair the washer and they were deciding whether to replace it. Then I got an phone call from Lowe's Extended Warranty telling me they were going to refund my money from the purchase, but would not be repairing nor replacing the washer. Being that I purchased this during a special sale, the minuscule amount they were intending to refund would not be enough to purchase another machine to match the Maytag(aka Whirlpool) Dryer. The intent of a warranty is to repair or replace.
My savings are gone, I am a disabled senior citizen on a fixed income! What am I supposed to do now, contact the Animal Planet Show "Tanked" and see if they can turn this defunct washer into a $500 aquarium?! Is this the way Lowe's Extended Warranty treats everyone, or just disabled senior citizens who are on fixed incomes ?!
