Subway Uses Dirty knives!

Complaint

Subway is the most convenient place to get a sandwich in my city so I eat there a few times a month even though they aren't the best-the ingredients aren't what I'd called fresh. I have noticed that they use the same dirty knife to cut all the sandwich's. I cannot, for the life me, figure out why they do this? I don't like mustard or mayo so why would you cut my sandwich with a knife that you just used to cut a sandwich containing mustard and mayo? Is there is any reason why the knife can't be wiped off? It only takes a second to wipe it off in between sandwich's. It's really aggravating when the person in front of you asks for mustard and mayo and the Subway worker cuts their sandwich and then cuts mine with the same dirty knife, leaving mustard and mayo on my sandwich! I had to have them make me another sandwich one day because they put so much mustard and mayo on someone else's sandwich that when they cut mine, there was mustard and mayo in between the 2 sandwiches and on top of the bread! Most recently, the person in front of me ordered a sandwich sans mustard and mayo but it had bell peppers. And what did I taste when I bit into my sandwich? bell peppers. There were no bell peppers on my sandwich.

I know this is petty, but could you please wipe the knife off in between sandwiches? I really don't think thats too much to ask. If I order a sandwich with no mustard or mayo, then thats what I expect.

If it is not too much to ask, then ask. The questions you have posed here are better asked of, and answered by Subway.

I've asked and been met with attitude. They don't like doing it.

This is actually a common complaint about Subway. I was just curious if anyone cold explain the reasoning behind this. Its gross. Mayo, mustard, Tuna. I don't want it on my sandwich and I don't want to taste it on my sandwich.

The answer to my problem is to ask them not to cut my sandwich. Common sense. I just didn't think of it till now.

I never gave this any thought until now...because what if someone is allergic to fish and they have their sandwich cut with the same knife that they just used to cut a tuna sandwich? This would be worth bringing to their attention at their corp. office. I know they are big on customer service and cleanliness so, this may be something they would want brought to their attention.

This is a pet peeve of mine. I hate mayo and don't like it when the knife gets mayo on my sammie. Samanthasmom has a good suggestion to ask for it not to be cut. I'm going to do that next time I go to Subway.

I work at a subway and EVERY sandwich I make is wrapped sans white deli paper and I use that to wipe the knife off and clean the board a bit quickly before the next sandwich.

I wouldn't want extra sauces etc in my sandwich, why would anyone else! Its just common sense.

As for allergies, ask me and ill wash the knives and change my gloves with a smile!

I hate seeing a co-worker use a filthy knife to cut a sandwich and will usually take the knife before they can cut the sub and wipe it off.

You can get a sandwich in every corner of the world but good service is hard to find! (Come to Canada haha)

I work at a subway and there is a slight reason for this. We cannot just wash the knife after every sub, that would cause people to have to wait way to long if we washed everything after every sub. But the sandwitch artist is suppose to wipe off the knife on the wax paper after every sub (a lot clearly don't though =/) just thought I could help to explain :)

yeah, def ask them to do so. it would be the smallest thing that could be asked of them. customers are the pickies people i have ever seen. because they can see how its being made. as opposed to mcdonalds where you cant see the exact drip of mustard in their sandwhich. then a girl came in that was allergic to bread. DID SHE REALLY JUST COME TO SUBway? you can imagine all she had us do to prevent one speck of bread crumb on her salad. as if she wasnt basically breathing bread from the second she walked in the door. so, asking to wipe a knife off is nothing. but not all subways keep using the same knife. =]
