Lane Bryant - Overpaying

Clothing - Complaint

I made a purchase with Lane Bryant and paid well over the amount necessary because I had seen the pieces on sale in the past..I placed the order the next day. The 2 items were on sale for almost half price when I called to have the difference either credited to me or the order cancelled..they refused.

I believe the situation was handled quite poorly and that I overpayed for 2 items that so conveniently went on sale the very next day. My order had not been sent out yet and the company still refused to cancel my order and reverse my payment. Clearly their main focus isn't customer satisfaction more so than money coming in. Very poor service.

Not impressed and I highly recommend making purchases with a company that might be a lot more credible. I'd hate for this to happen to someone else.

Unfortunately this happens a lot at retail stores. One day can be higher and next day cheaper. Some stores will work with you, some will not.

They did what is in accordance with the terms and conditions of their website, in my opinin.

First of all, like many retailers today, the website tells you that an order can't be cancelled once it is placed. I equate this to a when you make a purchase at a brick and mortar store, the point at which you are now you have had your credit card processed but not left the register (no product and no receipt). The purchase is not yet complete to reverse or change.

The website states that in-store purchases can receive price adjustments within 14 days by presenting a receipt. By definition, your purchase isn't complete, so you can't pursue a price adjustment until that time. I didn't see anything that precludes a price adjustment for online purchases, but lacking a statement that they do my guess is they do not.

If you think about it, "price adjustments" seem designed to make one brick and mortar store compete better with another brick and mortar store. Online customers can compare AND select from multiple retailers without leaving their homes.

You didn't overpay, you just paid what the they were charging that particular day.

From their website:
"We do our best to pack and ship your order as quickly as possible. Since our systems are designed to begin this process immediately, you cannot change or cancel an online order once it is placed. However, to ensure your satisfaction, you may easily return your lanebryant.com order to any Lane Bryant store or use the return label from your packing slip for a shipment return."

It sounds like you can return the merchandise once you get it.

Also

"PRICE ADJUSTMENTS

A one-time price adjustment will be processed within 14 days of purchase when an original receipt is presented. The adjustment will be paid out in the original form or payment. Stores cannot process price adjustments for purchases made online."

I don't know if that applies to online orders though.

It seems you can buy the items at the sale price and return the full price items once they arrive.
