I changed to Direct TV in early August 2012.I had quality of picture issues right away that required me to take a 1/2 day off to meet the repair man just 2 weeks into my adventure. At that time the Genie recording susyem was not available. About a month later I saw an ad for the Genie recording system. Record 5 events at a time. The current recorder and the only one I was informed about when I subscribed only records two events. I frequently have a recording conflict on that receiver.

I contacted Direct TV about upgrading and the cost quoted was $400.00. No consideration for me being a new client. Direct will still own the receiver and I will pay $5.00 a month equipment fee. To cancel service is $20.00 per month left on a two year contract. I was considering keeping the premium channels after the three month free period but no chance of me doing that now. I will cut back to basic service to fullfill the contract and then Direct can spend a few thousand dollars to try to get my business back.

The sad thing is the customer support person I talked to did not seem to care and tried to make me feel like they were doing me a favor at $400.00.

I wanted to tell them how much extra money they are making off of me for channels I never watch and cannot order ala carte to get rid of them. To get certain channels I have to pay for a lot of ones I never watch and never will. What a racket. Makes me wonder how many channels would go belly up without bundling channels?

I was with Dish for 12 years before switching. average monthly bill of $110.00. You can bet I will not be with Direct over two and I may pay the $20.00 per month cancellation fee a little later in my cantract when the total cancellation fee is more palatable.
