EAST BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY -- August 1, 2012,I booked into Motel 6, East Brunswick, N.J. for two(2) weeks. I often took the train to Manhattan for business and pleasure. On Friday, August 10, 2012, I had business in Manhattan. It poured rain & I had a slip and fall in Pershing Square. I contacted Motel 6, East Brunswick, to notify the front desk I had to go to The E.R., and I would not return that night, & secure my possessions.

I returned August 11, 2012 to find my room rented, my luggage ransacked & in a storage room, many expensive items missing, including one the maid was wearing!

Motel 6 has "apologized and hopes (I) stay loyal to the brand..." paid for one (1) $20.00 bar of soap, and has stonewalled me for three(3) months, requesting "30 more days to look into the matter."

Have you:
1 made a police report
2 confirmed ownership of the hotel
3 told staff that if all pieces are returned you
will bring no charges against staff. If not
you will.
4 find photos that show you with the personal item
or items that are missing

While I do not understand why you called Motel 6 to let them know you would not be there and secure your belongings... Hurricane possible flooding - on 1st floor, have them take care of yuor suitcase while their home and family is threatened.. etc.

I get the feeling that is was the trigger for the whole event. The room was yours for the 2 weeks, you were not there, how much of an emergency was it.....I can understand re-renting your room for the emergency. Your possessions should have been safe.

I say sue the individuals and the corporate office. Get the police report first

Onlooker was correct on all but one detail. This was not during the recent storm. It was back in August. I would file a small claims court case now.

Just like Onlooker, I do not understand why the OP called to tell them he would not be there that night. Once you rent the room, the hotel does not care whether you sleep in the room or not.

The problem is that messages are frequently not clearly said or heard. I have been injured and going to the hospital and won't be there TONIGHT, may end up being reported as he is hospitalized and won't be coming back.

This week I stayed at a hotel for 2 days. After the first night, I left the housekeeper's tip on the desk with a note "I will be here another night, thank you for keeping the room clean." The housekeeper reported it to the front desk that I was staying 3 nights. A misunderstanding.
