FLORIDA -- I had to pay $168 in repair and $260 for part to get circuit board replaced cause my circuit board went out in back of refrigerator. In total the bill came to $455.00. The refrigerator is not even 3 years old. The technicians were very competent and were from the company that Bosch refers you to cause not any one in this area works on them. When they were leaving I asked they leave the old part. They said no, they have to send it back to Bosch for them to see what went wrong. I said if they are not paying for this bill then I want to keep it but they would not let me have it or give me credit for it. If you have an auto repaired and pay for the work and part if it is not covered by warranty, then by law you must get the old part back.

So why are not appliances the same way? What happened to consumer protection and rights. Bosch refrigerators don't last long

Interesting point. I can see the wisdom, if what you were told is true, in sending the part back for failure analysis. This could help the company in assessing the need to possibly do a recall (which could result in reimbursing people who paid for repairs and have their receipts). A skeptic may think they are trying to keep people from figuring out there was a manufacturing defect on their own, or a real skeptic may think the board was OK and they paid for a broken wire or something to be fixed.

They keep the parts and refurbish them then resell the part. The only reason the analyze the control board is so they can fix that part.

It's entirely possible that they price you paid for the part didn't have the price of the core part built in, like an auto part. For example the part could actually list for $300, but they get a $40 credit for returning the defective part. They charge you $260 for the part assuming that they would get the defective part back and Bosch would give them credit for the part.

There is a core charge for most electronic boards. If the part is not returned, there is a charge for it. If you wanted to keep the board, the technician should have told you the cost and let you decide.
