TULSA, OKLAHOMA -- Yesterday, at the Wooddland Hills store in Tulsa, OK, I bought items totaling $78.13. When I presented my charge card, the cashier asked me if I wanted to "round up" my total to $79.00. I, of course, told her no, but then asked her if she would round down to an even $78.00. She replied no, she couldn't do that. What in the world is going on? Why would a milllion dollar + store ask a customer to give them 87 cents? Is this normal, and has anyone else experienced this?

I remember awhile back, stores took part in a 'Keep The Change' campaign...where customers donated the odd change from their purchases. If the purchase totaled $12.45, they would round up to $13.00 and the 55 cents was donated. I don't remember what the charity was, but if this is what they are doing then they should explain that...other that than, I have no clue why they would ask that or why a customer would do that.

Goodwill always asks me if I want to round up my purchase and lets me know that the extra cents will be donated. But, they are the only store I know that does that. I've never heard of JCP doing this. Wonder if it was for charity.

My two esteemed (and beautiful) co-members are on the right track. JCP has intermittently done a round up for charity program. The CSR needs better training, because she should have informed you.

It's called 'JCPcares'. This years donations go to 4-H clubs, I believe.
