HUNTSBURG, OHIO -- I signed up with J. P. Propane as my residential propane supplier back around 2001 or so. They do require a contract that states all equipment including the gas line, tank, regulators etc... are their property and can be removed at any time. Due to their very high price currently around $2.29 per gallon, I decided to switch to another supplier and purchase my own tank (this new supplier is at $1.39 per gallon).. no brainer right.

I made a call to J. P. Propane to ask if I could purchase their tank and they indicated they do not do this, which is their choice. I asked if I did switch if they would fill up a private tank and they stated absolutely not. They also stated they would not remove the old line but cut it at the ground level. The contract stated that I need to give them cancellation of account in writing and then they have 90 days to remove their tank and no other company can touch their equipment. My new supplier stated they would pull some strings and get someone approved for weekend installation, or it would be 3 months out. I could not wait 3-months due to the low fuel in my tank, so took my chances on having them remove the old tank and installing the my private owned tank that I purchased (all hooked up). I stated this in my letter of account cancellation with J. P. Propane. About a week later someone from J. P. came to my house and left a letter at my door with the original contract terms and a $60 bill minimum usage fee, nothing else.

I did not receive any phone calls or communication from J. P. Propane indicating when they would be out for their tank and regulators. This past Saturday I woke up to take a shower and there was nothing but cold water. I tried to kick on my furnace as it was 32 degrees out and nothing. My wife then remembered that J. P. Propane's tank was not in our driveway so must have picked it up on Friday. I went outside and the tank was gone, I looked that he hookup to my house and the propane gas line was removed and then I went to my tank and that line was also removed. NO LETTER, NO PHONE CALL, NO CONCERN FOR LACK OF HEAT OR HOT WATER IN THE HOUSE FOR MY FAMILY. They could have asked if I would like to purchase the line and I would have most likely accepted. They even went the extra step of lifting up my new tank and removing the 12 cinder blocks that it was sitting on and set it back in the mud!

I would not recommend this company to anyone as there is in my opinion a huge lack of business etiquette and value. No indication of putting the customer first and taking care of them. They have a minimum usage fee, very expensive installation fee, and very high non-competitive prices. I am glad to be done with this company, and based on their actions would not consinder them in the future. Do yourself a favor and don't even consider them if you live in the Geauga County Ohio area.
