Whirlpool - Poor Product ..... Even Worse Service After Problems

Front Load Washing Machine Wfw9050xw00 - Complaint

I purchased this washing machine 2.5 years ago and within the first year it was not used due to the house not being lived in. After moving in I had problems within the first 3 months when I had a service tech out to fix the problem with the door gasket. The service tech did not install the spring retainers so it then fell back off during a wash cycle. Does not seem like such a bad thing except there was over $1000 worth of clothing in the load. Nothing was ever done to take care of any of this after numerous emails and phone calls I gave up. The machine has never worked right and throws trouble codes constantly. Tonight it threw a code as usual except I cannot clear it and the door is locked. Whirlpool tells me that I have no warranty left and I should call a service tech. Knowing what happened before. Horrible company .... I urge everyone to stay away from Whirlpool "Junk" and no accountability

Overall I like the Whirlpool family of products, including their Duet washers of which this model is a member of. Admittedly, the wfw9050 is the most basic of units produced and is no longer a part of the line. If memory serves right, for about $50 more, one could purchase the more advanced wfw9150 which I think was well worth the difference.

With all of that said, mechanical items, including appliances, can have problems with non use. Gaskets erode and lose the ability to function properly when they set around that long.

In addition, this is the exact type of merchandise and purchase where the product's warranty, and the extension thereof is important to consider. An extended program may have guaranteed the unit for several years beyond the first year and even guaranteed the unit to be replaced if it couldn't be serviced.

This is water under the bridge now, but all of this can be important to consider as others make similar purchases.
