Menards - Bird Seed in NOT for the Birds

Audubon Sunflower & Audubon Wild Bird Seed

TINLEY PARK, ILLINOIS -- Great, durable packaging but the contents of the Wild Bird Seed resembles a poor parakeet type of content; the Sunflower seed is the cheap (non-oil) sunflower seed plus a multiple of foreign (product related) pieces. Whatever the price, it is NOT for the birds. Honestly, it is amazing that Menards sells this product as their quality in all other areas is faultless - in my humble opinion.

P.S. Meijer's sells a very good line of products for feeding our fine-feathered friends. They are much superior and often subject to Meier sale prices.

i too have discovered this the hard way with store brand bird food. they are often full of millet, a seed most birds do not eat.

very helpful review, and voted as such!

Menard's has a really good deal on their 20 and 40 lb "country mix" bird seed quite often. However, it is really just milo and millet mixed with a little corn and who knows what. The end result: the birds won't eat it nor will the deer. They leave everything except the few pieces of real corn and sunflower seeds. Overall, a huge waste of money. Don't buy bird seed from Menard's, at least not the cheaper stuff. Best to look at the ingredients of any bird seed you buy and stay away from those that have millet or milo as one of the first three ingredients. That means both milo and millet are the main ingredients and will be not eaten by birds.

As for Meijer bird seed, they do have some good seed, but they have jacked up their prices so high that it is no longer feasible to buy from Meijer---even when it is on sale and you can take another 15% off by using your Meijer card. Thus, I go to a grain elevator in a couple of small towns a 15-20 mile drive away and get 50 lb. bags of their "bird seed." for $5.99. Even with paying for the gas, I come out better and they don't put junk like milo or millet in the stuff they sell.
