Verizon - Early Termiation Fee Not Owed

FIOS - Complaint

PENNSYLVANIA -- Two years ago I signed a contract for FiOS service (bundle). I moved after one year to a location that did not offer FIOS, altho there was Verizon service. They billed me for $190 early termination fee. In the same billing they gave me credits I had earned, leaving a balance of $142. I did not pay this and it has gone to collection.

I would welcome court action, but doubt that they will go that route for this small amount. Instead, I have it on my record. They, meanwhile have spent much more on unsucessful collection action. What stupidity!

You can either let this debt continue to rot or you can clear it up. The next time a collection agent calls, tell them you want proof of the debt and you want it in writing. They are required, by law, to provide you with this information. If they cannot, then the debt will be erased, if they do, you unfortunately, will live with the consequences unless you decide to pay.

I've had a clean credit record my entire life. Personally, if I were in a situation where I felt a company billed me incorrectly I would call and call and call until it is resolved.

You didn't explain what happened in your efforts to have them explain the ETF. At this point you can challenge it as described in the comment above, or let it ride. Good luck.

Not sure why you don't feel you owe an early termination fee. You state you signed a two year contract and moved after one year; it's not Verizon's fault you moved to an area that they don't provide service. Based on this, you have made a decision that will adversely affect your credit rating for a debt that appears legitimate, and is your responsibility.
