Unpleasant Experience Renting Car

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA -- I have a very unpleasant experience when I rented a Fox Rental Car on Sept. 14, 2018 about 2pm at the San Diego International Airport. I made reservation online. I paid with credit card for 4 days of a full size 2/4 Door Automatic Hybrid AC car costing $132.74. I printed the Confirm Reservation. On page 2 there is a paragraph which I quote below: “When you arrive at SAN, there is no need to wait in line. Proceed directly to section in the parking area and select any vehicle in that section.”

This is what I did. I proceeded directly to the parking area for Fox Rent Car. I saw one of your attendant named Charles. I gave him the papers and he proceeded to type into his computer. Meanwhile a family of four came by. Charles stopped what he was doing and attended to the family and gave them a car. I asked Charles how come he got a car ahead of me. Charles said the family have a contract and I don't. I showed Charles the paragraph above where it said I can pick the car. Charles said that does not work. Charles continued typing.

A couple came by and Charles interrupted what he is doing and gave them their rental car. Very frustrating to be waiting there and people getting their car ahead of me. Charles after minutes asked me to sign the contract four times. Really upsetting. Again I told him in accordance with the paper I got I just select my car and be on my way. Why is he writing up a contract? It took about 15 minutes for Charles to do the contract and a lot of aggravation.

I asked Charles his name. He said, “Why are you asking for my name?” I told him I am going to write to Fox Rental Car about this experience. Charles asked again, “What are you going to write about me?” Charles need to be trained on how to ask questions and not be rude. I told Charles I am going to write about my experience here. Charles is displease that I am going to write negative things about him.

Miguel, another attendant came by. Miguel told me, "Mr. ** you can pick your car in this lineup of medium size cars." I told him I rented and paid for a full size car and a hybrid (Fusion). Why would Miguel offer me a midsize car when I am paying for a full-size? And Fox Rental Car do not have a Fusion so I ended up getting a rental car I did not want.

When I was checking out, guess who was manning the checkout booth? No other than Charles! Is this guy multitasking to work on a role which he is not train nor have no experience to do? Charles is not a pleasant person to deal with. He is argumentative and belligerent and should be confined to the checkout booth and not deal with customers directly. Please explain why you made a claim that a customer can just pick his car and be on his way. This is not true and did not happen to me.

Fox Rental Car Experience

FORT MYERS, FLORIDA -- Yukon was a very high mileage rental. Vehicle was dirty inside and out - dead bugs inside and food on seatbelts. Car vibrated when driving down freeway and brakes pulsed when stopping. When arrived at my destination realized the FOB battery was dead or did not work at all, anti-theft went off every time used key to unlock the door. Contacted pickup location customer service and were rude, transferred me to roadside assistance and they were equally rude.

Basically told me "tough luck" and if I want another car to bring it back, 45 minute drive one way from my vacation to bring vehicle back. Decided to keep vehicle and drive it as little as possible. I contacted corporate about the experience and no response. This is our third bad experience with FOX and will not use this company again. Not worth saving a couple of bucks to use this company.

Company Lied To Make More Money

MIAMI, FLORIDA -- This company lied to make more money. My family and I booked a car through bookings.com and reserved a car through Fox Rent A Car at Miami airport. I didn't think 184$ for the week was that bad so I went with it. We got to Miami airport and had to take a shuttle to the Fox Agency which was about 5 miles away from the airport. Once we arrived, I was greeted by the sales staff. Then it started, I was told that I was not allowed to use my own insurance rider that covers rental cars while driving their cars and HAD to purchase from them. This right away took my rental from 184$ to 334$.

Then I was told that I had to buy their Sun Pass Package at 80$. When I informed the sales agent I already had the Sun Pass, he ask me if I was sure and ask me to produce the transponder which my wife had in her hand. Then proceeds to tell me that tolls are expensive in Florida and I may need to put more on it through Fox, no thanks. Then tries to get me to pre-pay for gasoline usage by telling me local gas prices are $3.69 a gallon and I better take their deal at $2.49, WHICH AGAIN WAS A LIE, local prices were 2.59.

Then the sales agent tells me there is a 150$ damage deposit on the cars because they are brand new. This is common practice so I didn't mind paying knowing I would get it back. I walked out to my BRAND NEW CAR and noticed the name scratched in the hood and scratches in the door. Called the salesperson over and he stated he knew nothing and I would be getting a different car.

After the week was over I turned in the car with no issues and was told I would be getting my damage refund in a few days. Three days later I received a refund of 126$ out of my 150$ deposit. When I called the company customer service they were closed, but I am going to keep trying. Remember, good companies aren't cheap and cheap companies aren't good.

Nightmare

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- Fox is pretty much a scam rental car company. They are a nightmare to work with... Rarely have the car that you reserve available at pick-up (which maybe isn't such a big deal if you are just reserving a sedan). Imagine reserving a mini-van and them trying to pawn off a compact car - and then trying to do so for the same price. Or, when they do have the car you reserved, which you reserved because the price looked too good to be true, don't actually count on them charging you that price.

Add in all the other headaches and lousy customer service... Waiting forever to get to their site due to their one "driver" isn't "in that day"... or plan on arriving 4 hours before you flight because once you turn your car in... relying on them to get you to the airport for your flight may be an hours long wait.

In the end, you won't actually save any money - after they scam your reservation and don't honor the price. Then the frustrating hassles of working with their brain dead employees who don't care about anything except their next "smoke break", or the beat up car with 3/4 of a tank of gas, or the waiting forever for the shuttle to get your car, or the biggest nightmare - missing your outbound flight because it took 2 hours from the time you arrived to drop off your car to actually get dropped back off by them to your terminal.

Fox Rent A Car is a scam - you'd be smarter just sending them the "quoted" price and then renting a car from a real company... at least then in your mind you can make believe you rented a car for less and don't have to live the headache that is Fox Rent A Car.

Worst Experience Ever.

SAN FRANSISCO, CALIFORNIA -- Don't ever use this company. I forgot something in my rental car and called them back the same day and continue to call them multiple time for 3 days. Every time I called I was told I would get a callback. Three days later. Still never got a callback. The representatives were not helpful at all. They just kept telling me to hold on or that someone would call me back. Just this last time I was on hold for over 30 minutes trying to speak with someone that could help me. I understand that I left something in the car, however, this business should be better able to assist a person when they call.

There is no reason that a callback should not be done within the time frame given or that a representative refuses to help us out. To make matters worse when speaking to a supervisor, she told me that she would not call the lost and found department and hung up on me making go through the system all over again. After calling back about 3 times and asking for a supervisor each time, she kept telling me that there was no on that I could speak to and refused to give me her supervisor and disconnected the call again on me.

When I called back again the same person Kim told me that her supervisor is not there and that he made his own hours so I could not speak with him and that since I was not on the contract (which I was) would not allow me to speak with anyone else and disconnected the call on me again.

This morning I still have to receive a call back from Kim's supervisor, and I doubt that I will because of how rude she was. And to top it off one of the Fox rental agents stole my device and now Fox is stating that they will not help me now because this is not their problem. I will never again use this company and will be sure to let everyone know how awful they are. If you are in need of a rental car, use some else and save yourself from this god awful customer. They are a untrustworthy and unhelpful company that does not deserve your money or your service.

Poor Rental Car Experience

DENVER, COLORADO -- This was the worst car rental experience I have had in my 7+ years of extensive. personal and business travel. Yes, you may save 3-5% when compared to the larger national chains, but you pay for it in your time and frustration.
Upon arrival to DEN I waited with a large group for the shuttle for 15+ minutes as AVIS, Enterprise, and Alamo shuttles whizzed past.
When I arrived at the facility it looked like a run down warehouse with I clean restrooms and one old couch.
Even though I prepaid for my car well in advance, I still had to wait for 20-30mins in line to pick it up as they were understaffed. During the pickup process the associates try to up sell you on everything from GPS to a toll pass making each check in longer.

Never again.

The Worst Rental Company on Earth

MIAMI, FLORIDA -- Compared to some of the other Fox rental reviews ours in mid October 2018 was a snap. We picked up our 2 yr. old, 62000 miles, very dirty Kia on 10/16 from their "off airport site". The site is a very bad area of Miami and dangerous to go in and out of as well as very hard to find. It had no GPS and, when requesting a map, they said they don't do these anymore. So Elliott gave us verbal instructions on how to get to turnpike heading to the Keys. Needless to say it took us 2 hours longer to get to our destination than it should have. We were high pressured into spending $72 for a toll pass which, if we had a map to get to highway 1, it would have been avoided.

Upon return of the car on 10/24 I asked for my $150 security deposit back which they charged against my Visa back in July. Elliott gave me some song and dance where they only credited $132 (I hope. Don't trust these people) claiming some b.s. about tolls which I already had on charge. DON'T EVER RENT FROM FOX. Go to a reputable company in the airport, not off-site, spend a few bucks more and be treated like they appreciate your business.

SEATAC, WASHINGTON -- I've rented with Fox for 20+ years. They lost a valued customer yesterday.

Seatac Fox -- Only 8 people ahead of us, and we waited about an hour., late in the evening (after 7 hours of flying from Mexico) They said their CC verification system wasn't working. Why don't they have a backup?

Got to the rental place at 10PM, didn't get out with a car till 11:30. No choice of vehicle -- they gave me a boxy van, older with 50K miles. Only 3 of us so didn't need the space, but after waiting that long, needed to get the hell out of there for a 1 1/2 hour drive. Didn't get into bed till 1:30AM.

Other customers were more vocal and angrier than I was. One guy who came up after me said "Why are you guys so incompetent?" The Fox rep's response, in an after to (inappropriately) respond: "Because we're purposely ignoring you". An insight to their lack of training, company protocols and alternate computer and charge card procedures.

Fox is apparently operating on a shoestring and doesn't consider the marginal value of a customer. They lost thousands of dollars from me now in the future for lost business.

Never again.

Fox Ripoff Regarding Excessive Gas Charges

SEATTLE -- Fox Rental Car has small keypads which you initial at the airport. Their keypad at the airport is tiny and not legible. In addition, when asked if I'd return the vehicle's tank filled with gas I mentioned to the Fox Agent, Anastasia, that I would be returning the car with a full tank of gas, which I did. Fox deducted $23.64 stating the tank was on 7/8 filled.

When I ask for the charge to be refunded, I was told I agreed to the contract which stated I would be charged by Fox for refilling the tank. I'm sure I'm not the only one being RIPPED OFF. When I called Fox to dispute the issue, they said I signed a contract and they would not refund the gas charge of $23.64. Thanks Anastasia for NOT listening and FOX for ripping me off. Caveat emptor.

Terrible!!!

DENVER, COLORADO -- Waited one hour starting at 2:30 a.m. for the Fox shuttle, even though I'd called and told them our flight was delayed. Finally got to the Fox depot at 3:30 a.m., only to be told by the incredibly rude counter help, Amber, that, since we were late, they'd canceled and sold our car to another customer. Who could they sell a car to at 3:30 in the morning? We were the ONLY ones there! Told us that the only option we had was to upgrade, for a much higher price, to an SUV. Renter, beware... rip off rental company. Emailed a complaint in and it was sent back as undelivered... not even that was legit!
