Another unresolved complaint against Europcar
GOTHENBORG, SWEDEN -- Hiring a car can be a great way to get around Sweden, but if you choose to deal with Europcar at Gothenborg airport, be careful to check everything you sign and keep all receipts.
Europcar believes they have the right to take money from your account, weeks after you've been verBally assured that all is in order, without explanation or evidence of justification. According to them, it's up to you to prove you have been robbed, rather than up to them to prove any money is owed.
We returned our car, with a full tank, as is the requirement. We asked the attendant to confirm that. He went out to the car with us and did so. He assured us that nothing else was needed - and we left. Weeks later, when we were safely home, we discovered that Europcar had charged us for a tank of petrol. When we challenged this, we were told it was up to us to prove we had returned the car with a full tank. Four months later, we are still challenging this.
So - a warning. Don't be fooled by the nice smile and the verbal assurance that all is well when you return your car to Europcar - get it in writing - and keep all receipts for at least 6 months. Expect to be ripped off. Keep all evidence you'll need to defend your case.
