Entertainment Book - One of Many Companies That Auto Renew You
This post is not to single out the Entertainment Book, I'm using this as an example. I frequently renew software subscriptions, magazines, pharmaceuticals etc online with my C. C. I am careful to read the fine print and opt out for auto renewals when posted. The problem is this is rarely posted. Once they have your C. C. info many companies auto renew you without your permission. Many times you don't even know this has happened until your credit card bill comes in.
Example: I have a subscription to Consumer Reports. The C. C. I used was expired when I came up for renewal. They hounded me like a dead beat demanding my new C. C. info for renewal.
My card was still active when up for renewal with the Entertainment Book, Norton, Raxco and Kiplinger's Magazine. They all auto renewed me. When I complained their excuse was this was done for "my convenience" and to save me time. Really? They just wanted to make sure they got their money.
Here's a better way. My primary C. C. is AMEX. They offer a one time disposable C. C. number. I now use this for all online subscriptions and they can't auto renew me.
