Kenmore Cold Spot 106.57863801 - Complaint

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA -- We purchased this refrigerator in 2010. A year after we purchased the refrigerator the fridge side stopped cooling. The Sear repairman said the freezer side had frozen up and had to replace a control module which cost $300. Six months later we had the same problem. The Sears repairman said the freezer had frozen over and the same control module would have to be replaced again. He could not guarantee we would not have the same problem again. I decided that this refrigerator is defective and I was not going to pay another $500.00 to fix it again. I will never buy another product from Sears.

Sears doesn't actually make those things, so it would probably be helpful to know the model you have. Sounds like a lemon...

Whiteduck is correct in that Sears doesn't make any appliance with either the Sears or Kenmore name. They are subcontracted through a different manufacturer and then labeled differently.

The model of the Kenmore being referred to is actually within the title and is, 106.57863801. This is one way that Sears references their different models. This particular model is a Kenmore Elite and, I believe, is produced by Whirlpool.

The product is not one that has a large typical history of problems although, yes, sometimes you will have breakdown. This is truly why I suggest everyone addresses the subject of warranty conditions when purchasing a larger and more depended upon product. Even good products break and it's the warranty that guarantees that the consumer, although put out in handling the service, doesn't have to cover the costs.

Don't assume anything when making the purchase. When a manufacturer states they will guarantee and item for a single year, think about how you might handle such conditions. If the product really does fail, just outside of warranty guild-lines, are you okay in accepting the costs?
