DirectTV - Automatic Renewal

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK -- I just read a review where the customer expressed dissatisfaction with DirectTV because of unauthorized billing. The customer plans on leaving DirectTV when his contract expires in 6 months. BEWARE! If your equipment fails during the 6 months that you have left on your contract and you call DirectTV to come to your home and replace or repair the equipment that is under contract, they will automatically renew your contract without you being notified. Maintenance is not included in your contract. Also, you will continue to be billed until you return the equipment. Before you cancel, make sure you cancel the credit card you have on file with them to avoid unauthorized charges. They have been sued by practically every state in the country because of unauthorized charges, but they continue the practice.

My concern would be how some companies like to 'enter you into a service contract' without your signature on anything.

With respect, I would politely request a signed copy of any agreement showing that I agreed to extend the programming for an additional period of time. If they're unable to provide you with such, then you're issue is simply resolved.

Replacing a faulty reciever is not entering in a new contract. Upgrading a faulty reciever is. One the customer is transfered to a third party verification. Two, the customer signs an agreement if a technician comes to the house to install it. If this was a plain old warranty replacement of a faulty reciever there is no 2 year contracted extended. Normally a replaced reciever is just drop shipped to the customer.

Yes! you are renewing your contract anytime equipment is replaced for ANY reason! You can ask to see the contract but DirectTV will tell you it is in your contract and the contract stands. You can cancel service at this point if you wish,DTV will just put a huge charge on whatever account they have on file for you. yes the equipment is drop shipped to the customer and their contract is extended, they will not tell you until you try to stop their service thinking your contract is up.
