Dish Network - Bill due in May that we never heard about

NORTH CAROLINA -- We received a bill December 1 2012 about service in Hampstead (our prev. address.) We thought it in error because we live in Asheville NC. I called Dish Network and a representative told me it is being taken care of. On Dec 6 we received a note that Dish Network turned the bill over TO A COOLECTION AGENCY!!! My wife called and after a half hour they found that a bill was due in May 2012 that we never received!
Such gross incompetence's for a communication company is inexcusable!!

Is it a legitimate charge? If so, be willing to pay the principle but not the interest or collection fees. Let them know you're willing to do such, in writing, and get the bill presented to you in the same way.
If you don't feel it's a legitimate charge, dispute the amount with their collections agency and follow the requirements as outlined for the Fair Debt Reporting and Fair Debt Collections Acts.
If you just ignore their attempt to collect, the charges will be assumed legit and will grow until you're forced to address them.

Was it in May that you were moving? It may not have been forwarded to your new address. If that's the case, explain it to them...if you have a good payment history with them, they should offer to remove extra fees and just accept the payment for the monthly fee.
