State Farm - Complaint-Cancellation of Policy

Vehicle Insurance - Complaint

KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON -- I canceled a policy on my 1998 Ford Ranger which I sold. Received a $48 refund from State Farm for the 1.5 months remaining on the 6-month premium paid. Refund was correct based upon number of days insured during the 6-month period.

But a week later, I received a bill for $78 additional premium on my other vehicle (a Honda Ridgeline), State Farm stated "...additional premium for
loss of Multi-Car discount...". This policy on the Honda was renewed at a different time than the Ranger.

I ended up PAYING STATE FARM $30 for CANCELING THE FORD that was sold!!
How can this be? (I should have kept quiet about the sale of the Ford and let that 6-month insurance expire naturally!!)

I've had SF for decades, and love them. They have always been excellent about partial refunds and adjustments. Once I had a charge I didn't think was correct because of something they didn't know, and it was corrected immediately.

If I were in your shoes, I would call my agent for an explanation. What you would hope for is that the multi-car discount is prorated, but you know, it may not be. Stop back and let us know what they tell you.

Hindsight being 20/20 you should have. But the rate on your other vehicle still would have gone up at the end of the six months. Don't let $30 ruin your holiday season. You didn't do anything wrong, they didn't do anything wrong, it's just life.
