Stay away from Vivint - Dishonest Company

PROVO, WASHINGTON -- Please, please heed the warnings on Vivint. Vivint Inc. is an unethical company. Their salespeople are trained to be deceitful and specialize in preying on the elderly. My parents live on Maui, are in their eighties and had a perfectly good, operational burglar alarm. The clean cut, fast talking Vivint salesman seemed nice and reputable, but he turned out to be a classic scam artist. After softening them up by scaring them with talk of “nearby” burglaries, the sleazy peddler went into high gear explaining all the bells and whistles of the “absolutely free” Vivint burglar alarm. Vivint was very speedy in disconnecting the previous burglar alarm.

Unfortunately, the system they put in DID NOT WORK! After repeated phone calls to the salesman, “customer service” and Vivint corporate, I was told they needed an electrician to do some work so the alarm would be functional. In the meantime, my parents were scared to death to leave their home, which was now uncovered by a burglar alarm due to Vivint. Vivint promised an electrician, but when no one appeared, the Vivint representative wanted my parents to find an electrician themselves! An electrician contacted by Vivint told my Mom that they wouldn't work for Vivint based on the very poor online reviews.

Imagine a company that sells a non-operational burglar alarm, then tries to get the customer to solve the problem! Calling Vivint is useless because no one will do anything but transfer you to another representative. They will not allow you to speak to a supervisor. You only get the run-around with Vivint. And the “free” system? Not so free. My parents are on the hook for $59 per month for 60 months! Even charged them $100 for installation. If something goes wrong with the system, they have to pay $49 for a service call. No getting out of the contract. My parents are on the hook for 5 years.

If they need to leave the home due to declining health or sell their house, they are still on the hook for 60 months. My heart bleeds for my parents. After working hard for 80 years, they get taken advantage of by a scam artist trained by an unethical company. Protect yourself and your family by totally avoiding Vivint!

PAPILLION, NEBRASKA -- My garage door started to spontaneously open after Vivint installed their system. Any time of day, alarm on or not, didn't matter. Finally got fed up and had Vivint come out and replace components for the overhead opener and tilt sensors. Did not resolve issue. Had them come out a second time, replaced controller again. Did not resolve issue. Talked with customer service and they stated they would come out a third time, "check the system out" for things like snipped wires, shorts, etc... If all checked out and issue still persisted they would waive the cancellation.

Day of check-out arrives, the tech simply opens/closes the door from the panel and says, "yep, it works"... as if that was the actual issue we had been reporting. He stated that CS would be in touch. They called me back and said that because everything was working fine on their end, "they" (some other dept) told them they could not let me cancel. They offer two months of service credit and I make them take out their controller and replace with a camera, so if my door opens, I can see someone coming into my garage at least.

All while this is going on, we have their mobile app. iOS, Android, doesn't matter. The app is complete garbage. App will tell you house is disarmed when the alarm is still on. It will sometimes take 30-60 seconds for status to change to show proper status.

Wife just got a new phone, installed the app. I had to revoke her permissions and reinstall the app. App says she has ZERO permissions even though online dashboard shows no issues. Customer service representative over chat states that I should try the mobile browser instead and that the app is "a convenience". Seriously??? I would NOT recommend this alarm company nor their hardware/software installation to ANYONE!!! STAY AWAY!!!

WICHITA, KANSAS -- Tech plugged alarm system into the wall and sat the unit on my counter top, I ran the wire through the wall myself because the tech said I had to run the wire myself if I wanted it ran inside of the wall. The alarm pad stopped working. The customer service knew about the communication failure but had no problem continuing to charge me well past my contract date and had even asked if I wanted to sign a new 36 month contract while I was on the phone to try and cancel which is just about impossible. This company is the closest thing to a Ponzi scheme! This company is a joke. They do not care about their customers. Just getting their money.

HOUSTON -- This is the first time I've gone to the internet to complain about a product. I feel compelled to warn others to steer clear of Vivint. We were slammed with 5 year contract that we were honestly unaware of upon signing up. I would've never agreed to a 5 year contract. Additionally had I known that this contract was binding to the extent that there was no way out aside from paying the balance I would've laughed and told them to go away.

We attempted to get out last year because of cheaper deals with better services. YOU ARE STUCK AND CAN'T GET OUT NO MATTER THE SITUATION! If you attempt to go through the channels to try and reason with them they will put you in a circle of communication that will have no end. They've created the most amazing rip off service that truthfully provides no protection.

I've not been able to even to access my video for over a month because their service is down. I happened to be curious to see if I could is the only reason I even tried a while back. We are selling our home and honestly have no idea where we are moving and I've been told that I need to pay the balance to get out of contract. It's a deal with the devil with a Vivint contract.

PROVO, TEXAS -- I moved from one state to another after having Vivint Alarm system for less than a year. I called to set up installation only to be told it would be a month before it would happen. I was home on the date in question but as no one had arrived I called and was told that it was for the next week.

On the day of the install the tech had sensor communication issues but it was because "the battery needed to charge". The system failed after 2 weeks. I also paid $200 so that I wouldn't have to extend my contract past the 48 month. Upon calling tech support about the failed system, I was told that a tech would need to out but they couldn't come for a month and that there was a charge for the house call. I then received a demand to pay for 3 months service even though it only worked 2 weeks and the rest of the time was waiting on installation. Buyer beware! This company is the worst! DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON THESE GRIFTERS!

PROVO, UTAH -- I had a system installed on 3/28. That was almost three weeks ago. It never worked properly from the start. I put in multiple requests for service. They stated the first available was in December. My last call was elevated to a manager. I did get the service appointment moved up to June 6th. Wow, that's much better. I only have to wait two months to get a service appointment for my system that is supposed to be providing security for the life and safety of my family. I do not recommend this company to anyone. In fact I recommend you run from it.

SNYDER, TEXAS -- Vivint is great during install but has the worst customer service to resolved issues. We have been with them for several years and I am finally fed up. I will not renew the contract when it has expired. About 3 days ago, the whole system degenerated into claiming doors were opened, sensors had failed through out the system and cotinued to blare the alert noise. No matter what we did, we could not eliminate the blaring noise.

Finally, Vivint technician at the Vivint call center was able to silence the system until the next day when it again activated itself with every door, window, etc failing. Once again, the Vivint technician was able to silence it and schedule a home visit in 2 days. Of course, as per usual, the repairman did not show up. They rescheduled until tomorrow, but as is their usual modes operandi, I am sure they will not show up. DON'T BUY VIVINT - WORSE SYSTEM AROUND - WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE ON THE MARKET.

OGDEN, UTAH -- Signed up for The security system because that supposedly was the only way to get high speed internet. We don't have a lot of internet options where we are located. Have had service for a year and they came and took our equipment down to replace it. 3 months later I got a cold call, no caller ID and stated they were from Vivint and demanded I give them my financial information or they would remove my equipment the next day. Of course I am not giving that info over the phone when it was a cold call and should they have that considering I have had the service for over a year.

Constantly transferred from person to person saying that they will call back, on the phone for over 2 hours at one point and one representative even laughed. Now I am stuck with a security system that I did not want, felt I was deceived by a shady salesman and no internet. This is the most deceitful company anyone could come in contact with and this should be illegal. Are we not warned daily to never give out financial info when called. I work for a bank and this is drilled into us. Stay far far away from this horrible company. I have no idea how a company can operate like this and get away with it.

System Is Crap!!!

CLOVIS, NEW MEXICO -- Since installing the Vivint security the front camera goes offline randomly or makes my phone app go off continuously every minute detecting motion when nothing is there. Our wifi is drained so badly that we can't use cellphones or tablets or gaming systems so we switched providers. It still doesn't work.

The electric bill shot up $50 dollars higher. The techs you talk with don't have a clue what to do to make the system work correctly. And you get 3days... 3 WHOLE DAYS TO DECIDE IF YOU WANT TO CANCEL!! A tech can come out to check the system but not after 5 only 8-4. So we have to wait a week for someone to come on Saturday. Beware of Vivint!!! Do not be fooled!!

Don't Fall for It--Awful Customer Service

RICHWOOD, TEXAS -- I'm not one to go out of my way to bash a company, but Vivint is a self-centered money making company not concerned at all with how your system functions or how deep they dig into your pockets. Their customer service is just one person sending you to the next person and no one has access to the info and no one is concerned about truly helping you. The system has never worked properly from day one.

Recently our garage door command stopped working also, a problem common with their equipment, and they charged me $50 for them to come fix something they provided that was faulty. They have tons of hidden fees and a locked contract that traps you. Any time something breaks or fails they say "Oh that's a common bug in the system we are working on". They said that from day one ensuring they could resolve the issue. They never fixed the issue and put off fixing it until our contract date was locked in and then they told us we couldn't back out.

How unethical is that for a company to be so shady. Since you are locked in they have no concern about how you feel about their products, because you are forced to pay regardless. Funny how this double standard is...they don't hold up to their end of the deal by providing you a secure home, but they enforce you continue to pay. Please consider another home security option. As far as I'm concerned Vivint is a scam.
