BUFFALO, NEW JERSEY -- My Dad died and I was one of the beneficiaries of an account where I was to receive about 12,000. A couple of weeks later, my sister asked me if it had come and I said no. I called and the bank was closed but didn't say what their hours were to receive calls, just call again. After numerous calls, I finally got put on hold, waited for 20 minutes, and got through. They said they sent the check to me and since they had my address correct, needed to charge me 10.00 to resend. I complained but got nowhere. If I wanted 12,000, I needed to pay. It is not the 10.00, but the attitude of a bank, saying if there was a price to pay, it was to be paid by me. Since they couldn't determine who was at fault, it was determined I would pay.

"Since they couldn't determine who was at fault, it was determined I would pay."

Typical bank attitude today, I am afraid.

I don't know that the policy of charging the customer to stop payment and send out another check is bad. But like the poster indicated, attitude is everything.
