The carpet cleaner was defective and the sprayer for the upholstery cleaner did not spray all the time. Because I started cleaning late at night, I was able to exchange, also for 1 hour late, they charged me an extra 24 hours. it was an honest mistake on my part. I was too busy to read the time correctly. Anyway, because of the rudeness with management a lady by the name of Kerri in the Aurora location I will not be returning to the Home Depot.

Huh? Did they exchange it and because you clean late at night you shouldn't be charged for the the extra day you kept the cleaner due to the fact that you had to exchange it? There is nothing in here that shows the manager being rude.

I had some of the same questions as ticia232.

I think the point Joe (the O.P.) is trying to make is that he rented a carpet cleaner, tried using it late in the day and found he had some difficulties in using it. When he returned it, he was an hour late and was told he was being charged for an extra day of rental. Upset, he suggested that it wasn't working correctly anyway and, I'm sure, they've told him that he should have brought it back for an exchange rather than holding onto it. As such, he was still being charged for the extra day of rental he didn't expect.

Employees should always be courteous. But sometimes they have to still tell a customer, 'no'. This can be done in a polite way and should not be misconceived as 'rude'.

Thing is, AYS, there are some people who think that if a manager tells them no politely albeit firmly, they still think that manager is being rude because they didn't honor their request.

I don't shop at Home Depot personally, because a female cashier stared at me when I was purchasing my goods and almost screamed her words when she said "Aren't you the thief they caught in here yesterday" (It was my first ever visit to a Home Depot, period, and my last). The manager was laughing when confonted and told the cashier "she doesn't even have the same hair color or length. The manager could not have cared less. No apologies issued from either. But I digress. Back to the complaint, I had a similar siuation (NOT at a Home Depot) and the company cheerfully swapped me with a working machine, no late fees and NO additional charges.

I don't believe the store has the ability to discern between an honest mistake, and someone who simply went over the allowed time. I always double check the details when renting something to avoid this ugly issue.

It's hard to assess based on the details whether they should have waived the late charge. Bottom line is they don't have to in any event, but if sufficient evidence is presented to confirm an equipment issue, a reputable place will usually do so.
