OHIO -- This is the worst washer I have ever owned. After a little less than 3 years it will cost us $575 to get this washer repaired. Also, when the washer is spin drying it makes an awful noise like the sound of a jetliner. I will never own another GE product.

GE front loading washers are notorious for their multitude of problems. However the one you've listed, Ghre5550k2ww to be specific, is one of their high efficient top loading washers. In place of the traditional agitator, GE has designed something called an Infuser to produce movement within the laundry. As any high efficient washer, the laundry is then showered from the top using a pump from below the tub. The final spin out on this series of washer, I believe, is roughly 700 RPM. Not as good as many front loading units, but much better than the traditional top loading products.

Overall, I like the GE series of top loading designs, including their Infuser design. Unfortunately, anything can break before one expects. It's frustrating that most appliances only come with a traditional one year, limited warranty. This is where I have always advocated that if one is not prepared to take upon the cost of such repairs, they should shop with extended warranty programs in mind. Make it a point to purchase the product from a retailer that offers reasonably price and well backed warranty coverage, preferably that is administered directly by the retailer you're purchasing from.

With respect, the problem is not of GE. Anyone reading these reviews can see all makes of all forms of products have complaints listed here. The solution is to simply purchase more wisely so that difficulties such that you're facing now is covered by the retailer or manufacturer.

Hopefully this helps in the future.
