ELBERTON, GEORGIA -- Well, lets start here, April 2010 my girlfriend moved in with me and she cancelled her Dish Network account right beside me, $90 a month. Guess she should have checked, but 2 yrs later she bounces a check and thinks she should have plenty of money to cover in the bank. We come to find out she's been charged $90 a month since then. So, they on Jan. 1st debited her account for $571.00 for the equipment and it hasn't been in use for 2 yrs. No return boxes were ever sent to my house to send it back and the lady at customer service was very rude in saying she should have checked her account. I agree, but shouldn't it have been stopped and we would not have this problem to begin with? So, $2,731.00 or so dollars later, I have since cancelled my account that I have had forever, and am getting 2 sets of boxes sent to MY ADDRESS to send them their equipment back. Just sorry service from a top named company that really could care less for the individual. Any advice besides girlfriend checking her bank account?

At first I was a little confused over your letter. After thinking about it awhile, it would seem that the deductions were gradually draining the account which caused the account to finally be overdrawn. It wasn't until after the checks started bouncing that your girlfriend evidently canceled the service and was THEN charged for not returning of their receiver(s) as she, most likely, didn't have them around any longer.

No question, that's a lot of cash to be out.

Does she have any documented proof that it was canceled so long ago? My guess would be that by the sheer fact the deductions continued and were never stopped probably indicates an acceptance of the service. Unfortunately I think she's on the hook for all of it.

Please let us know if anything changes.

How does someone not know what is coming out of their account for 2 years? Did she never check her statements when they came in? When you cancel a service that is on autopay, it is always wise to check the statements/account afterwards, especially with services that have such bad reputations for not doing what they are told, such as this company, just for such reasons as this. But 2 years before this was discovered, come on, that's just very irresponsible account keeping. Hope she keeps a better check on it in the future. As to the complaint, yes I agree Dish Network failed once again on their end to do the job they were supposed to properly.

Some people don't check the details of their account. I usually don't. That's really not the cause of the problem here.

from all the horrible comments i have read, get ready for when you send you equipment back they will debit your account to ship their equipment back too! Stay away from auto debit.
