MICHIGAN -- We purchased a GE range in October of 2012, on several occasions we have noticed the smell of gas. This being caused by either brushing up against the range or reaching into the above mounted microwave. Just recently while away, we received a call from our son who stopped by, letting us know the house was filled with gas (thankfully he was there to open doors and windows up.) One of the repair techs that came to the house, suggested I cut some plywood block to set behind the knobs to prevent them from turning. Not an option after spending $900.00.

Our calls to customer service were to no avail. The last person we spoke with was a "MARK' supposedly a supervisor who suggested we could use child proof locks. After I knicked that proposal he offered to allow us an upgrade with a slight discount and they would remove the bad range. Sounds good eh?

Then he dropped the bomb, they would pick it up though, I would still be responsible for the balance due and would also have to pay the price of a new model. What a deal It would wonderful if all American would deal with GE because with deals like that somebody can get rich.

With respect, if the problem really was that you were accidentally turning the knobs, then I don't know why one would assume the manufacturer would be the one responsible. If a switch or orifice was found to be faulty, then that may be different.

Who was the retailer you purchased it through? If anyone, they MAY be able to assist. Have you spoken with them?
