GEICO - Fees Due After Non-Renewal

Auto Insurance & Homeowners Umbrella - Complaint

CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- I recently cancelled my policies with GEICO. I had been a relatively satisfied customer for over 15 years! Recently, I was able to lump my homeowners policy, my auto policy and my umbrella policy into one and received a significant discount. I did this before my GEICO policy was to be renewed. I then received a bill from GEICO for $18.08 stating that they had continued my policy when I had already received notices that it was cancelled. Now, they have sent this to a collections agency! What CONS! Find a better policy. Go with your local insurance broker in your own communities! That's what I did.

I strongly suggest that you write a letter of dispute to the collections agency in certified mail. Obviously you should not have to pay for service after it already ended.

Do you think that all of those Geico commercials luring unsuspecting people in are cheap? This is just one of their ripoff scams. Be glad that you dumped them.

Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy? The final bill is $18.08 for which the op allows it to go to a collection agency. The OP paid thousands of dollars to them over 15 years, so the $18.08 is not going to break him. My belief is that life is difficult enough without getting into a dispute over $18.08-- I would just have paid it and gone on.

Someone will say it is the principle of the thing. If so, then the OP has to pay the consequences of fighting for principle, including getting it reported to the credit agency, getting upset, arguing with GEICO, etc. To me that is not worth it for $18.08.
