Hey Bossy Lady. I read the question you've posted and have some appliance background so I thought I'd try and help.

The heat being produced from within the oven cavity is generally contained within the oven cavity. It would normally not have any way of dissipating from the top of the oven cavity to the underneath side of the cook-top; let alone to then travel all the way through the cook-top to then discolor the surface. The surface of whatever you are cleaning with the Soft Scrub is definitely discolored or using the cleaning agent wouldn't have any affect.

Given those set of conditions, I would make an educated guess that the issue is not with the cavity, but the door and the insulation thereon. Some models of ranges have the gasket around the door frame, others are actually placed directly upon the door. The difficulty with the later is that it is more easy to damage by spilling or setting hot dishes on. Once the gasket is damaged, it allows for the heat to escape the cavity and would normally rise up the front of the oven. This, in turn, could discolor the surface it's in contact with.

If this is the case, the first concern would be replacing the gasket. If you're unsure about the gasket doing a proper job upon visual inspection, run your hand gently around the outside after the oven has been preheated. You'll likely feel the heat escaping. You'll want to contact an authorized service center. The work generally won't be covered under warranty as the gasket will have been physically damaged, but it's important to have it doing its job correctly. Without it, your range will never keep an accurate temperature.

The second issue will be for cleaning. This depends a great deal as to what the surface color is meant to be. Yellowing suggests that its normal color would be white. This being the case, I've found wonderful results with a product Mr. Clean produces called a Magic Eraser. Try it and let us know how it works.

Best of luck.

While not the same problem my stove cook-top (black porcelain) was badly stained. While cooking pasta the pot overflowed with the boiling pasta starch. I tried everything to get it out. Soft scrub, products for burnt on food, magic eraser, degreasers but nothing worked. Out of desperation I called Dacor, the stove manufacturer. They recommended Bar Keepers Friend. I bought the liquid (not paste) for about $5.00 bucks. It looks similar to soft scrub but is less gritty and totally safe. I'm thinking that this is never going to work. To my amazement it did! I had to apply it 3 times but it totally removed every stain. It left the cook-top so clean, like the day I bought it. Give it a try.
