Inova Hospital Treasure Trove Shops Complaint - Very Rude and Abusive Delivery Personnel
SPRINGFIELD, VIRGINIA -- My Complaint is about the rude way I was treated in front of my family during the pick-up of a charitable furniture donation.
In January of 2005, I donated 2 bedrooms worth of childrens furniture, medium end, excelent condition to Inova Fairfax Hospital Auxilary Treasure Trove Shop located at 6416 Springfield Plaza, Springfield, VA 22150. The occasion for the donation was a move to a new house and replacement of existing furniture that my two children had grown out of. The original cost of the furniture had been about $4000. I estimate that it was probably worth half that due to it being used, upon the time I donated it.
After describing the items to someone over the phone at Inova Treasure Trove, the receptionist expressed interest in my donation and scheduled a pick-up at my house. The two men who came to do the pick-up were surly and rude. Both were probably in their early 60's or late 50's, one white, one black. Both I understand were volunteers.
How they acted in my house: One of the two men, made numerous deprecatory remarks about the furniture I was donating. I was dumfounded, because everything looked good and was definately in servicable/useable condition. I though to myself, "What's going on? Did they expect that I would donate new furniture? This furniture was afterall used!"
In any case, instead of lifting the furniture, they were dragging it over the carpet and over the stairs. When I asked if they could lift it over these areas and not drag it they laughed. I proceeded to move the furniture down the stairs myself (I did not want to see the floor damaged as I was soon to place the house on the market). At this point the one man who had made the derogarory comments about my donations asked me in front of my wife and son if I had taken my medication that morning...! In retropect, I should have told them to leave my house at this point. Nonetheless, I let them finish moving the stuff out and told them I would complaint to Inova Treasure Trove. The one obnoxious gentleman laughed at me and said he could care less.
I spoke to the supervisor at Treasure Trove the same day (1/14/05). She said they were volunteers. I told her if they apologized to me for how they treated me in my own house, I might feel a little better about how they acted. She told me she could ask them but not make them do this. They decline to apologize.
Based on the above, I would warm people in Norther n Virginia from making donations to the above location.
