Whirlpool - Poor Service And Product!

Fridge - Bottom Freezer - Complaint

I purchased this fridge SIX MONTHS ago at Nebraska Furniture Mart - and the compressor died! Since it was under warranty, I called Nebraska Furniture and they put me in touch with A and E. A and E came out the next day and said a new compressor was needed...the serviceman ordered it and said it would be a week. (I couldn't believe it, we have people coming in and I don't have a fridge - but why kill the messenger!) That day, my husband called Whirlpool and Nebraska and they overnighted the part rather than waiting a week for it to arrive! I called A and E when I rec'd the part (the next day) and was told they would install it a week from yesterday!

Now remember this fridge is SIX MONTHS OLD -- so, my thought was fix it or give me a new fridge! With pressure from Whirlpool - A and E finally said we can move up the repair by one day!!!!! WHAT??? I'm without a fridge, I have company coming...you can't help... NO!!!!!! Whirlpool and Nebraska, although they were nice they were virtually useless. (And my food inside the fridge and freezer was toast!)

Do not buy anything from these people because NEBRASKA furniture has a contract with WHIRLPOOL and Whirlpool has a contract with A and E..who could care less if people are serviced well - they have the contract, they get paid - whether the customer is happy or not! My hope is that we apply pressure to the retailer - Nebraska, the wholesaler - Whirlpool - to give consumers adequate service from the products they sell!

I should start by saying I like both Nebraska Furniture Mart and Whirlpool. I've recommended both of them in the past.

Whirlpool makes a good line of refrigerators, as I have more than ample background in appliances. The frustration with all refrigeration units these days is the smaller compressors they are required to be built with. Energy rating requirements prohibit the use of the larger compressors of yesteryear. It is important, for that very reason, to provide ample airflow around the entire fridge. Give an inch or two around all sides of the fridge and especially in the back where the compressor sets. NEVER PLACE THE FRIDGE DIRECTLY AGAINST THE WALL. This creates a environment equivalent to suffocating the compressor and causing it an early death. That, by no means, is to say that we know this is what happened within this case.

Unfortunately, things break. Warranties don't guarantee things won't break or that it isn't a hassle when they do, just that the costs are covered when a product falls within the warranty guidelines.

Once repaired, I'm sure you'll continue to love the fridge. They really do make a great product line. Please, keep us informed.
