Thanks for confirming what a bunch of weenies Priceline are.

"I booked a hotel in Las Vegas to find out the deals were cheaper to go direct". That is true about 99% of the time. Unless you can afford to get ripped off or lose the booking you paid for stay far away from Priceline and all the other 3rd party travel sites.

Saavy travelers avoid Priceline, everyone should!

I had heard enough about the mandatory resort fees at some hotels that when I booked with Expedia I noticed they were excluded in the fine print. So I knew up front I was going to pay them, separately from Expedia.

I think any mandatory fee needs to be included in the price quoted. Airlines cannot give a price then start adding on taxes and fees, they have to give the final price. Hotels should be required to follow the same rules.

The resort fees are just another way to ripoff the consumer.

I always like how the resort fees cover such items as in room telephones. Who uses hotel telephones? Hotels have taken a page from airlines: everything is extra, but manditory.

This is why booking through a proper travel agent will save you money. They will do the leg work for you and find the best deals and they will inform you of resort fees. Never book through a third party site.
