Home Depot - Interest on Promotional Purchases

Dishwasher - Complaint

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA -- The first thing is I bought a dishwasher in December 2011 but didn't realize it was on a no interest for 12 mos promotional purchase. Granted I have a large balance with HomeDepot so I would have chosen not to take the promotional rate.

When I got my statement this month January 2013 I had an additional $94.00 interest charge because the promotion had ended on 1/6/2013. My complaint is from January 2012 to January 2013 ONLY $25.00 of my payments for the year had been applied to my promotional balance I have other credit cards that have promotions and when I make payments that payment goes towards the one promotional purchase that is getting ready to expire. I would have rather paid the interest each month for the 12 months than to get an additional $94.00 which put my account over the limit.

I am getting ready to pay this account off and I can assure you I will not open it back up.

Your complaint is with citi bank which is who the credit card is with not Home Depot...The no interest promo is automatic..Its usually if you spend 299. or more you get 6 months no interest if paid in full and the promos are the 12 or more months. If you want your payments to be applied a certain way you need to call citi bank and set that up..Its pretty clear on your credit card statements to because your purchases are broken down by the promos and reg purchases..

When I moved I purchased over $10K of all new furniture. I maxed out two zero percent six month promotional accounts. It was clearly explained to me that the accrued 25% interest would kick in if not paid off in six months. During this time I made a small minimal payment. Just before the six months ended and they were going to whack me with a big interest charge I paid it off.

If you purchase from any retailer regularly, you should be equally aware of their promotions. Unfortunately this is the way any retailer I'm aware of operates. If you don't pay off the principal within the promo period, you get hit with interest.
