Do Not Use Travelocity-No Good

Partial Trip Cancellation - Complaint

In August 2012, we booked a flight and hotel to Atlantis re a special they were running for mid-December. Their website, only after booking, at Travelocity Confirmation - "General Policies" states "We know that sometimes you have to change your plans, which is why we do not charge any cancel or change fees." Also, after booking at:
travel.travelocity.com/mystuff Page 3 states "if you make a change to the hotel portion of your trip prior to Mon, Dec 3, 2012, you will be charged a fee of $0.00." Our adult son broke up with his girlfriend and we canceled one person on Dec. 2. They will not reimburse for one less person on the trip. This was a trip of a lifetime for us and I'm out $800. They're all smoke and mirrors. Again, do not use these blankety blanks. We didn't ask for the airfare back (about $350) but the plane was full. I believe they pocketed that for themselves.

Personally, I would never use any of these third party websites. I understand *why* they are popular, because they offer a way to surf packages and rooms, and there is an expectation that you may save money in the process.

Call me a stick in the mud or a luddite, but the more direct methods of searching for rooms and air tickets and rental cars are what I will continue to use. I would fully expect something like what happened to you in using Orbitz, because companies such as this have a long list of complaints against them.

The promise of a few dollars saved can evaporate in an instant.

One of the things to realize with all travel sites, including the hotels and airlines themselves, is that there is a difference between no change fee and paying for the product, for instance: an airline that charges no change fee may allow you to change your flight to a different day without a fee; that does not mean that you exempt from payng an additional $500, because the air fare for your trip has gone from your original $300 to now $800.00.

Likewise, a "change" is not a cancellation. A change would indicate a different date or something of that nature. It may be possible for the old girlfriend to still use at a later date, the hotel you paid for in her name. (In you buy a trip in someone else's name, you are making a gift to them of that money.)
