VANCOUVER, WASHINGTON -- I have attempted to shop at the Vancouver Mill Plain JC Penny store several times. Store employees are a joke. Xmas I attempted once more to shop for presents for wife and several granddaughters with little success. Found one employee on the floor and attempted to discuss my list...managed to ask about flannel nighty and about the funny face hats for kids. Was pointed off to some area for nighty and told if I find the hats let her know as she was looking also and walked off. I walked in direction pointd but never found what I was looking for and left. Doubt I will ever again go to Penny's.

I am sure I am not the only male looking for Xmas present for ladies that has no idea what we are doing and need help. Seems Penny is only concerned about checkers at front of store. Suggestion..in my younger years in Seattle I always went to Nordstrom at Xmas. They Sally Brown..in name only but advertised to help person like me shop for our women. I did this every year at Xmas and for birthdays etc. The Sally's were always great helping find what we needed, suggestions for age and size and much more. I can't remember myself or my mom, wife, daughters being disappointed.

Your lay out is lousy....I, like most men are not there to shop we are there to get a specfic item or items...your store is not friendly... Also in the old days was fun to go just for the Xmas decorations...Can't say what you had there this year could be called decorations..Would be nice if Penny had a complaint department. I don't think they care what the customer thinks...

JCP is not the place to go expecting a personal shopper to patiently review your shopping list. It is a failing business looking for a fast sale. The only place that might be willing to help you is Nordstrom if you are willing to pay their prices.

It would make sense that JCP is set up to cater to shoppers, which as you say you are not. This is one of the disadvantages of being a male.

It would also be helpful if their employees knew where the merchandise is, so that is a very valid point. As for Christmas decorations, it is possible that over the years this has become more of a specialized items that some stores don't go out of their way to carry, what with it being seasonal and all. My best memories of buying Christmas decorations at a place like JCP is getting stuff at deep discounts after the holiday, which doesn't do much for the bottom line.

It's impossible for an employee to know where every single item in the store is. When I worked retail, I mainly worked in shoes and lingerie. If someone asked me where something in the men's department was, I wouldn't always know. Especially if it was a specific item. And things get moved around all the time. I agree with the above comments. JCP is not set up for personal shopping
