McDonald's Corporation - They Consider THAT Stealing?

Something I Read While Waiting in the Drive Thru
Review by clutzycook on 2013-02-05
This evening after Baby Clutzy's swimming lessons, we headed to McDonalds to get her some "Chicken Nuggets, french fries and soda," as she says. While I was waiting for the cashier in the drive thru to punch in my order, I had a few seconds to look at a sign that had been posted at some point in the last week (that's how often I'm there). It listed three things that were considered stealing--I guess by management.

1). Opening Happy Meal toys: Ok, I can see that

2). Getting a fountain drink without manager permission: Once again, understandable although most places I've seen allow unlimited drinks to their employees during their shift.

3). Taking waste food: Wait, WHAT?!

That's right; they consider taking food that would likely be thrown out to be stealing. I can understand perhaps if they take all the unused food to a homeless shelter at the end of the day, but I've never heard of a McDonalds doing this.

Maybe this is standard, but I'm thinking that if they're paying these employees such lousy wages, the least they can do is allow them to take a cold hamburger home at the end of the shift. Heaven knows the paying customers sure don't want it.

Corporations are like that. No common sense

One reason I think they may have that policy is so that employees don't create extra waste food so that they can eat it.

I think Steve nailed it.

Yeah, I thought of that too. That makes sense I guess. I just found it an interesting read while sitting in the drive thru.

When we were in college my friend worked on weekends at a local restaurant. Staff were allowed to take home extras at the end of a shift. We would put in our requests so he would make more than needed and we would have a feast every Sat. night. It helped get us through college!

I agree with Steve, I can clearly envision crew members possibly making extra food so that it is "wasted" at the end of a shift. It is not the optimum scenario, but it certainly is possible.

The statement about the fountain drinks could be a result of persons bringing a cup from a previous purchase after leaving the store and refilling - most stores with fountain drinks in the customer area do not allow the cup to be refilled after you leave the store.

I assume those rules only apply to employees. I find it odd they posted them within customer's views. Poorly ran McDonald's if you ask me.

You need to break BabyClutzy's habit of calling Pop, Soda...please, teach her this at her young age because the older she gets, the harder it will be for her to break this bad habit!!!!...Just tell her, Auntie Basher said it's POP, not soda, P-O-P, Pop!!!!

*Stepping down from the soapbox*

LOL. DB, I used to call it pop too, but when I started dating the hubby, he and his whole family call it soda and I just kinda fell into it. :)

I can't date a man who calls Pop, Soda...I can't...it's just too wrong...LOL!

In my long past youth, the waste food was sold to the local farmers for animal feed.
