Wal-Mart vs Target, Who's Really Cheaper?

Review by ok4now on 2013-02-05
Wal-Mart, the largest retailer advertises having the lowest prices. Really? Fox News just completed an investigation to determine which store really is cheaper. Let's call it a split decision. If you're shopping for groceries Target is the winner, they're 4% cheaper. Wal-Mart wins with their non-grocery products being cheaper. Is this because of all of the junk Chinese crap that they sell?

Here's my take. Comparing the two stores Target is the overall clear winner. Target is more "upscale" and doesn't have the "garage sale" look that Wal-Mart does. The clientele is better at Target, no trashy internet videos of their customers. Target actually has customer service where the employees are helpful. They say "hello" and "thank you." Wal-Mart employees are still working on this job skill. Target has cleaner restrooms. I can easily find a parking space at Target and the shopping carts work without the wheels jamming up. By far my shopping experience is better at Target. Comments?

I never ever use restrooms at stores, so I can't compare. That whole scene just makes me feel yucky.

Shopping at Target I leave feeling like a human being and American citizen. Leaving WallsMart I feel like a suspected criminal, resident of the hood, and like I just helped support an orphan in China. This is a big factor in why I don't like shopping there. The customers and the goods just look wrong.

WallsMart undercut the prices of a neighboring grocery store here when they moved in, caused it to shut down, and then jacked their prices up. That is just one reason not to shop there.

I do not shop at either store, so I don't really have an opinion, except - I did work for Target briefly, and I can say that their employees seem to be trained better.

Just FYI, Target buys cheap Chinese made products just like Wal-Mart does.

the rare times i step foot into a target, i leave stating i will never return. on my last visit, it was impossible to to locate anyone who could assist me in locating an item. all i got was, "it is over there". as far as prices, and grade of customers, target is the same as walmart.

it would be nice if someone posted items with prices for each store in same town.

I have 3 Wallmarts and 1 Sams Club and 1 Target within 15 minutes from my home. I have shopped at all 5 stores. The highest priced and the less clean (none could be considered dirty) is the Target store. All of the stores are well stocked. I have had no complaints with any of the help at any of the stores. As far as pricing, for the things I buy to include food, Wallmart is the least expensive. With that being said I now shop only at Target because I do not agree with the corporate approach Wallmart uses with their employees. They underpay and abuse employees and use strong arm tactics to keep them from being represented. The average employee cannot afford the health insurance that they offer. What this causes is an unwarrented cost to the taxpayer. It is like corporate welfare.Target may not be the best place to work but they are leaps and bounds ahead of Wallmart.

We have a walmart and Target right across the street from one another and in my area Target is the cheaper of the stores. Target is much cleaner and the staff is very helpful. The people in my area have also made it clear to walmart that Target is the favorite since the walmarts parking lot is empty and the Target one is busy.

I prefer Target. Their merchandise is better quality. (We don't have a Super Walmart in my city, just regular walmarts and they pretty much carry cheap chinese crap). Target is much cleaner and the staff much friendlier. Their clientele is also much better (although as of today I have been the victim of a hit & run at Target but not Wal-Mart). As far as stocking the shelves, their are both the same. It takes quite a while for items such as razor blades to be restocked. The only different is, Target's shelves are never completely bare, there is always razor blades and toothbrushes, just not the one you want and it will be weeks or months before your razor blades are stocked. Wal-Mart on the other hand, will have absolutely no tooth brushes or razor blades. Pricewise, Wal-Mart is no cheaper than Target.
