Direct TV - Illegal Practice

CARTHAGE, NORTH CAROLINA -- I just recently purchased a new home and contacted Direct TV as I felt they offered the best equipment and service. Signing up was a breeze, credit check and everything all went wonderfully. Customer service was very polite and informative. Installation was scheduled (2/5/13 between noon and 4) later than usual due to Superbowl.
I had a relative rearrange work to house sit awaiting the techs which were no call, no show.
After getting home from work, I called Direct TV to see what the problem was. I was informed they had cancelled my installation. They claimed I had their service prior. I have never before had an account with them. It was determined that I was to be held responsible for a family members account seeing as we had at one time shared the same address. Even though my name wasn't on their account. To even dispute this I would be required to submit proof of residence to Direct TV for the last 3 years.
Case in point...
Never have the same address as anyone that has a Direct TV account as you will be held liable to pay their bill or go through scrutiny comparable to obtaining a passport.
RIDICULOUS!!!
