SEATTLE, WASHINGTON -- A charge to my Eddie Bauer card was refused recently at an outlet store due to an 'outstanding balance' on my card. After switching to Comenity Banks' electronic payment (from a paper statement), I was never informed of a remaining balance on the card. The bank just kept administering late charges rather than contacting me of the outstanding balance. I had this account for at least 40 years without a problem. The bank claims they had contacted me regarding this oversight by telephone, but, to my knowledge, this communication never happened; so, someone had failed to do their job (at the bank). Be aware that banks have surreptitious ways of making money off consumers, and late charges are one their favorite tricks.
