Sears - Gas Furnace Debacle

Purchase and Install of Kenmore 97% Gas Furnace - Complaint

PORTLAND, OREGON -- In August I purchased a Kenmore 97% efficient gas furnace from a Sears Salesman that came to my home. I had gotten about 4 bids and Sears was about average. During the three days Sears gives you to go back the purchase. I did a lot of research on furnaces and pricing. The salesman never did any real investigation about my unique house but recoomended a high end furnace and then dangled a 400.00 gift card to me if I bought that day, this was at 2 and we had till around 5 to get the card.

So to my everlasting regret we signed up. What a mistake. Turns out the new furnace does not dry the air in my house as the fan just does not have enough power to do the work. So now my house has over 60% humidity and Sears will not make it right. After many e-mails and a lot of disingenious accusations about how my house needs work to reduce the humidity (all that work was done before the install) and that was my fault they will no longer even communicate with me. No due diligence was done as to what my house needed to keep the house comfortable in the winter. Sears sucks

Thanks for the warning. I prefer to use our local independent HVAC contractor to do my furnace work even if they do cost a bit more (which they often don't).

Yes thanks for the warning i should have found this site before. Because sears contractors do shoddy work and as long as it gets past a few years. Sears says sorry your problem. My parents had a furnace installed some years ago. And Mom wrote letters and tried calling local sears manager and never got any satisfaction. Nos some years later we got mold in house and this is a 130 yr. old house and it never had mold. had local heating guy come and check out the problem. Well it seems sears contractors didn't vent the water heater into chimney liner when they vented new furnace. And caused the chimney liner sears installed to deteriorate because of heat on inside of liner from furnace and heat from water heater on outside of liner. Furnace guy said he never seen a liner deteriorate this fast. All because of failed install by sears. Well now all that moisture will cost me $1500 plus to replace walls and ceiling and the upstairs walls and such was just remodeled last year. And all ruined. And all sears media or sears care or whatever their name says is they will give me 20% off my next purchase. I told them to keep it. Because I'm not shopping sears. When i was a kid sears was great store. But since about 1980's they have gone down. customer service is as long as it was done a few years ago it's your problem. Chimney liners don't deteriorate in a few years. The furnace guy says they will last a very long time. When installed correctly. Geez sears never even fastened chimney cap. They just sat it on top of chimney.
