CAMP HILL PA., PENNSYLVANIA -- Our sister Lillian haggerty is a patient in the holy spirit hospital in camp hill pa. We've called several times to check on her condition. We are on the list to know what is going on with Lilly. The nurses are always to busy to give us an up-date on her. I realize the nurses are busy, but someone could call us with up-dates. She (Lilly) is very much in our hearts and prayers. I don't want to cause a stir, but when you live far from the patients they should give us up-dates. We love her and only want to know how she's doing. Thank you

Call the hospital unit where she is staying and ask/demand to speak with the Charge Nurse or the Unit Manager. If that doesn't get you anywhere, call the hospital administrator. You're right that the nurses are busy and to be perfectly honest, most staff nurses are reluctant to give information about their patients to family members who are not spouses or parents (in the case of kids) even if they are on the "list." It's because the privacy laws are so strict that a nurse risks his or her job every time they give out information about their patients.

In addition to what clutzycook recommended, you might want to contact the hospital chaplain to see if they can facilitate a call from the hospital with an update.

I agree with CC. Laws regarding patient privacy are incredibly tight. I don't think they can even say "she's doing fine" beasue they have now released the information that she is a patient. It's not like the old days.

Beyond that, if they are too busy to talk when you call, when would they have time to stop and call you back? If she is in your hearts and prayers, send her a note and tell her so. She'll appreciate that much more.

Is there absolutely nobody else you can get information from? Are there other family members that live near her? A husband, a bf? Does she have children?

At our hospital we do NOT give out any information over the phone as it could be the media or a non-family member trying to get information. Further, the federal law HIPAA forbides healthcare professionals from releasing information except to the patient.

this hospital has a total regard for patient rights....never got an itemized bill from them...said I didn't need it, because insurance paid the large percentage of the bill....what a bunch of crap.....DONT GO THERE!!!!!!
