Bed Bugs At Motel 6

Complaint

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO -- Spent the night at a Motel 6. Didn't realize, until 3 months later, what the red itchy bumps were I had experienced that night & continue to experience. Turned out to be, yes, bed bugs! Total price to have my house professionally exterminated...$1,200.00 & There's no guarentee that the first treatment will eradicate all the little blood suckers!

Motel 6 is cheap but what a dump! Their bedding is questionable in terms of cleanliness. I realize that hotels are a great place to pick up these little buggers, but it has been a nightmare! I know I picked them up at Motel 6 as I was already itching & saw red, raised bumps that itched like crazy when I stayed there & afterwards.

Before this, I have never see a bed bug. I would like to sue them. The stress that this type of problem causes is unimaginable!

You can also contact the El Paso County Health Department (301 S Union Blvd in Colorado Springs) about your concerns-[719] 578-3199.

While I can afford never to darken the doorstep of a Accor property, the truth is bedbugs happen everywhere, even at Intercontinental, Four Seasons.
Check for bedbugs before you get into bed, but simply pulling back the sheets.
Get a sleep sack.
Try to stay at better properties - while no guarantee, it tends to happen very rarely there.
Suing? Odds of anyone touching your case - slim to zero (yes, I'm an attorney)

Sorry to hear of your issue, it has become increasingly common throughout the U.S. Aside from the extermination you already performed you may want to discard your luggage. Bedbugs are notorious for infesting luggage and can live for months without feeding.

In the United States we eradicated bed bugs many years ago and they would still be eradicated to this day if it weren't for a bunch of tree hugging whiners whining about DDT's detrimental effect to the North American eagle population. Hey look man I have nothing against North American eagles but if the choice is between getting eaten up by insects while I sleep or a few eagles biting the dust well I'm sorry my feathered friends but you lose. I say screw the bald eagle and BRING BACK DDT!!! It's our only hope.

"Try to stay at better properties"? Petty harsh suggestion, Motel 6 is the best many people can do when they travel. We like Marriott and Hyatt when on the road, we still check for bed bugs when checking in. They can be anywhere and at any level of a property. The last thing you need to do is give the little guys a free suitcase ride back to your home. As CKL7792 pointed out, they can cost a great deal of cash to get them to vacate the premises.

We had an ex member around here that liked to take pic's of himself having a drink in Motel 6's in his bathrobe. Different situation though, he was the one providing Motel 6 with the bed bugs.

It may be near impossible to prove that you got bedbugs from the Motel 6. By the way, how do you know the red, scratchy bumps are indeed from bedbugs?

It's depressing and irritating to read uninformed comments about how more chemicals would "save" us from the bugs (not to mention its people who crap up the planet). For one thing, rapidly reproducing organisms such as insects and bacteria simply develop populations that are immune to said chemical or antibiotic. For another, where do you think all those pesticides and chemicals end up - in us, eventually. That said, am truly sorry for the OP as bedbugs are a growing problem in the U.S., and suggest expensive heat treatment of whole house which seems to be effective. I never stay in any hotel anymore without checking bed, headboard, pictures etc. for any signs of critters.

I stayed at this same Motel 6 for three days back in November 2011, and I also contracted bed bugs/scabies from there. It took two months before me an my ex-girlfriend, who is from Nebraska, discovered we had scabies and bed bugs living in our matresses! My bed bug clean up costs me thousands! I attempted to sue Motel 6 in Small Claims Court, but my case was dismissed. Of course, I have filed an appeal. The judge specifically stated that since I informed Motel 6 a long time ago in regards to their bed bug problem, anyone else who experienced or suffered injuries due to bed bugs from Motel 6, would be able to sue them for damages!
