Directweb Complaint - Internet service goes out of business
NEW JERSEY -- We purchased new IBM computer through company called Directweb in January 2000. They were a new company with a great idea! Buy a new IBM computer through them and receive Internet access through their company, Directweb all for the low price of $39.00/month. Couldn't beat that for a new PC and internet combined, or so we thought. All was well until November 2000. No more internet service! We were not notified, we received nothing in the mail, by phone, my e-mail! Just no service! No explanation either! Call around for weeks, no answer to phone calls! We assume that they went out of business, but can't be sure. We contacted the Better Business Bureau only to find out what we assumed, they are out of business and couldn't be located! Well, we are still paying on our loan for the computer and do not get any compensation for the internet service that was "supposedly" included in the price of the computer. We have since had to pick up anothe internet provider, which we are happy with, but we have never heard one thing from Directweb! We were mislead and were never given any compensation for their going out of business. We were never made aware of what the breakdown was for the computer and what the price of the actual internet service was, and therefore, we are locked into paying off the balance of the outstanding loan which was to include 2 years of internet service! Thanks for listening to me vent! We did contact Better Business, but they wanted us to stop paying on our loan and just pay for the computer, but we were fearful of that action and have continued just paying it off. Unfortunately, we are paying for another internet service too, on top of the other one! We are very cynical and cautious now about any offers that look too good to be true! Sadly, the man whose brilliant idea it was to start up this company was a friend of a friend who made off with alot of innocent people's money! Thanks again!
