Progressive - They Lied About The Amount Of My Insurance. It Was Over Double What They Said.

Auto Insurance - Complaint

CALIFORNIA -- They quoted me less than half of the amount that the auto insurance really was. They took my money and when the paperwork came, the real amount was on it and I called them to question them and they said that was the real amount and if I wanted to cancel, I had to pay them $50 which I did.

Progressive should ask itself: Was it worth $50 to lose one customer for sure and possibly others who will read this and go to a competitor?

I've never read a complaint like this about my insurance company.

I would ask how thorough the process was that led to the quote you were given, and if it was prematurely made. In other words, before all the needed information was in their possession.

The whole "quote online" and competitive shopping nature of insurance leaves me a bit cold. Yes, insurance is expensive and it makes sense to think about shopping around. However, I chose my company many years ago, and have never felt I was overpaying, treated wrong, or underinsured.

While I still use Progressive for my auto insurance, I will also be shopping once my renewal comes up. Here is my issue with Progressive: Year 1 - first level of discount tier, no noticeable discount, annual premium of $1,600; Year 2 - move up one level, gain minor membership rewards, annual premium of $1,800; Year 3 - move up another level, gain a few more rewards, annual premium of $2,000; Year 4 - a few more rewards, annual premium of $2,200; Year 5 (my current rewards year) - accident forgiveness with a few more perks, annual premium of $2,400. What have I gained by remaining a loyal customer? Accident forgiveness plus some other minor rewards, all in return for an additional $800 in annual premiums. Basically, I am paying for my "rewards" via higher premiums. I also fell for their Snapshop discount program; four months, no issues, no discount. I used to be an advocate of Progressive, but will be looking for a new carrier in six months.
