HERMOSA BEACH, CALIFORNIA -- This is a total scam, this has ripped off two of my computers. I have read through complaint list and it sound like people are having the same problem that I am. I just got a new computer and never put this on it and it has been telling m that the subscription is expired and weather or not I would like to continue it at this time, I have had the same problem before so I clicked no and it won't go away, leaving me unable to use my computer.

MCAFEE IS A TOTAL SCAM, in my opinion, reading all of those complaints someone should SUE MCAFEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT THIS OFF MY COMPUTER!!!! NOW!!!!!!! It claims to be a antivirus company but this is a virus.

You could always give Symantec a try. I've had pretty decent service and use with them.

You might want to try the Mcafee removal tool. It can be found here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/McAfee_Consumer_Product_Removal_Tool_d5420.html

First of all, go to your control panel, Programs, and remove the Mcafee software. Then download a replacement. I have had excellent results with Micorsoft Security Essentials, and it's free.

It sounds like you have one of those promotional installations that comes with the computer, and it flashes those annoying messages on your screen. If so, I'd blame the computer manufacturer as much as McAfee - they agreed to put that junk on there.

I've had this on two computers, and found ways of removing it by surfing the internet, removing it from startup items, the registry, etc. I think you need someone computer savvy to spend 15-30 minutes on it. It is possible it is a trojan or something, but it is probably just an annoying subscription scheme that you can remove.

I don't use virus protection myself, but then again my cars don't have collision coverage and I don't have health insurance (yet).

mcafee and norton are both bloat ware. they hog system resources. mcafee nearly makes it impossible to remove once installed. there are several good removal tools written just for mcafee software.

try avg free version for a wonderful firewall and anti-virus.
